Funeral Poem
Posted on September 22, 2014 at 12:15 AM |
Sometimes at funerals you get someone who forgets to turn of their mobile, and it rings. Occassionaly they have the nerve to answer it and in best stage whisper tell us all they are at a funeral. In 2012 I had one such incident which annoyed me slightly, and persuaded me to rewrite that oft used funeral poem "Do not stand at my grave and weep". And so, without further ado, I present my version
Do not stand at my grave and tweet,
I am not there; My phone won't beep.
I'm not the thousand tones you know,
I'm not the one who is feeling low,
I'm not the tune with loud refrain,
That causes Clergy to look pained.
When you disturb the mourning’s hush
I'm not the swift searching rush
Of desperate hands in increasing plight.
Searching for mute to end this blight.
Do not stand and make a din,
I am not there; I will not ring.
