Funeral Poem

Sometimes at funerals you get someone who forgets to turn of their mobile, and it rings.  Occassionaly they have the nerve to answer it and in best stage whisper tell us all they are at a funeral.  In 2012 I had one such incident which annoyed me slightly, and persuaded me to rewrite that oft used funeral poem "Do not stand at my grave and weep".  And so, without further ado, I present my version

Do not stand at my grave and tweet,

I am not there; My pho...

If people ask what Church is about, there can be so many answers, and one of them is community. Today we took part in a community event, organised by the East Coseley Big Local. The weather in the morning was dreadful, and I had thought it would be a washout, but luckily for us the weather improve...

And we're off

Well we are up and running at last, although still lots of paperwork to do.

The parish is off to a good start, we have a wedding blessing on the 15th, as well as Mass on the 22nd.  We need to let people know about the fact we are there, so pastoral visits are getting started.  If you live locally we would love to see you on the 22nd, as well as a warm welcome I can promise you tea, coffee and a good chin wag.

Off visiting

Today I'm off to St Thomas's Priory to see my Bishop and discuss the service of Dedication for St Dismas.  Not only are there the formalities of the service, but all the legal and financial bits and pieces to arrange.  I'm grateful to +John for all the advice he has given me, the support from the church has made the process of organizing everything a lot easier.  Luckily after Easter I'm on retreat so I can try to clear my mind before returning to the fray.

Oh well, off t...

A new begining

Having spent my time in ministry so far working in mission, May will bring pastures new.  My first posting as a Parish Priest will be at St Dismas, Coseley.  It brings about many changes, especially as it is a new church plant. Over the weeks and months ahead we need to grow not just a congregation, but a community.  I've been lucky to attend a Mission Shaped Ministry course, based around Fresh Expressions of Church.  Although not all ideas work in an Old Catholic Church, ...
